I publish this video in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the beginning of WWII.
Germany attacked Poland, and Britain and France declared war on Germany. The fate of Poland was sealed a week before that with the German-Soviet pact of non-aggression. Perhaps, even before that, in 1938, when Britain and France, in Munich, let Hitler march into Chechoslovakia.
Throughout the dark years Lili Marlen, sung by Marlene Dietrich and Vera Lynn, was one feeble thread that connected the men locked in deadly fight. Vera Lynn, 92, today shot to the top 20 best-selling albums in Britain with her collection of war-time songs re-released to mark the 70th anniversary of World War II.
Enjoy. To listen to Vera Lynn in English please go to Tetradki in Russian here.
