As Obama cancels the summit with Putin... (a comic.)

The New Start and A Real Solution

As Presidents Obama and Medvedev are preparing to sign today an historic agreement to cut the two countries' nuclear arsenals, appropriately dubbed the New Start, it is worth remembering that,  for a modern leader, the chances of actually deciding to launch a nuclear strike are very remote, almost impracticable.

This conversation between the British Prime Minister and his Chief Scientific Advisor from the 1986 episode of 'Yes, Prime Minister' is a satire, but also a brilliant piece of political analysis. Former US Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz seem to have been convinced by the Chief Scientific Advisor's argument, when they supported Obama's approach.  

Cancel Trident and free £15 billion to spend on conventional forces and solving Britain’s defence, educational and unemployment problems. Why hasn't it been done yet?
